Hey everyone!  So glad I found this website, it has everything!  I've just signed the contract on the new MY11 Hyundai SX.  A nice black car and it is my first new car (upgrading for a 1989 Nissan Skyline).  I have to wait because it is now getting bluetooth in it.  I didn't ask for it so hopefully it is the newer model that everyone has been posting about.

Just wanted to let everyone know that reading your posts helped me make a clear decision on what car I wanted :)

Kim

:-) I'm giving my dealer 3 weeks haha.. I've been doing my research on car detailing and I've read that as you as you bring it home you should wash and "clay" it as well and then wax, to help protect the colour straight away.. I've pretty much got a huge supply of things from http://www.chemguys.com.au/  What does everyone think on protecting your car and the paint job?

Mine definitely didn't need claying when I got it. It was completely clean and new. It would only need claying if the paper wraps had been off for a long time and the dealer's detailer did a poor job.

I still washed it straight away, and used a polymer sealer on it though.

Well I have:

Car Wash
Car Wax
1 x waffle weave microfibre towel
1 x microfibre wash mit
and just some more microfibre towels

I'm about to get:

Dressing/protectant for the inside
micro finish factory paint sealant
clay bar with the clay lubricant

Am I going way too crazy?  I think I'm just excited.. I also bought seat covers, floor mats and a foil thing, also thinking of getting a duster?  Would that scratch it?

....................I really am going crazy.......

Wash it first, and dry it! Don't let it dry in the wind, thats half the battle. When washing make sure your mit/microfibre is always spotless clean. I use the two bicket method, one bucket with the carwash in, and one  with clean water to rinse the microfibre. check for any debris in the microfibre and remove them as you go.

then seal it, then wax it.

I always put the microfibre in the laundry to clean after use. SWMBO doesnt like this if its anything but lightly soiled, so keep your microfibre away from the wheels.

I never use acid on the wheels, just elbow grease and detergent. I put sealer on them and this helps the dust not to stick.

The stock tyres are going to last a long time, so I seal these to help avoid them cracking with age, this requires a different type of product (I use mcguires hotwheels).

someone will be along soon to say they have had their car for ages and it looks like new and none of this is necessary. It's possibly true, but I like my i30 a lot, and I enjoy doing it. Sad it may be.

You dont need a duster - a slightly damp clean microfibre is THE best thing to clean the inside. Don't ever rub the display on the radio or it will scratch. I have a screenprotector on mine and that works well.

I'll stop typing. there are lots of threads on cleaning cars on here, try a  search for Hemmi's "a day with mcguires" thats a cracker.

Welcome Kim :D :D :D

I too clean the car a lot, but have not yet found the need for clay bar (2 years).  Weekly wash (2 bucket) with microfibre mitt and drying with microfibre towel, waxing and high gloss protection every 3-4 months keeps her looking good

LOL the old skyline has seen better days.. it is slowly breaking down and it has become to expensive for me to fix and make it worth it.  I'd rather a new car I can rely on.  I put it on the trading post for $2300 and some random Malaysian wanted to buy it and pay for it on paypal.  I decided against it because it seems to risky.  I think I'll give "The Beast" to the wrecker  :'(
It's been a great first car though, will always hold a place in my heart <3

Good choice, Kim....More than likely a scam....
From what I hear, this sort of thing happens regularly when people advertise their vehicles....

Hey Kimba, Like Snowcherry, I'm a bit late getting to welcome you & your new black i30. Hope the black isn't too hot for Townsville. If it is, I'm sure a cool chick like you will drop the temp a bit...

haha you know it!

Car isn't too hot to be honest I haven't really noticed a difference.. maybe some hot air that rises up from the floor but I've got a foil thing and I'm going to get my windows tinted with that midnight express from tintacar  http://www.tintacar.com.au/midnight_express.php

I got a quote the other day and they said $250 to do the whole car which is pretty good.
