Hi Folks,

Thought I would start a thread regarding which tyres our members feel would be best to replace the existing Kumho/Hankook when they wear out.  8-)

I'm going to buy a Michelin winter tire for my i30, it's about 450 AU$ a piece.

I've had "Federal" tyres on a couple of cars now, they look OK, grip well in wet and dry, but one set on my Tucson seem a little bit noisy on coarse roads.  But for cheapies they seem really good.

I cannot wait to wear out the Krap Kumhos and replace them with something that actually grips. I've put Falken 452's on my 19" Nismo LMGT4's - they're a 'budget' sort of tyre, but I've found them to be an excellent compromise between grip and durability. I may investigate them for the i30 when the time comes around. Toyos also have a good name for grip, although they're quite soft. As Daz says, Michelin. Pirelli and Goodyear are all good.

For me i'll stick with the Kumho's on the Stock SX steels, i have not had one hairy moment and have driven in the wet and cold on some twisty roads. main reason is i'm always driving for economy as thats what the car is not a performance car, just a nice to drive economy car. to me high performance tyre's on a i30 would be a waist, but the Tyres like the Michelin Energy would be my choice if i ever wear out the Kumho's. i saw this past week a full page ad for those Michelin Energy Tyre's here. and our M8 Bunyip showed the Energy are Hyundai's choice too as they got the CO2 down to i think 120 from 125, thats what us Aussies will be looking at very soon. i wish i knew how to test CO2 as i would like to test the sport muff to see if it makes less CO2 or more or the same, If it made less i would be straight down to the EPA as it would be a good thing if it past sound level and made less pollution!
But i must admit nice looking wheels and performance tyres help the enviroment too, like good lookin' women :D

I'm with Lakes as far as the 15" Kumhos are concerned... they do the job fine for me, given that I'm past the age of pretending/wanting to be an F1 driver.
When they do wear out, however, I'll be replacing them for sure with something else - maybe Pirellis - anything that doesn't produce as much 'highway roar' on certain grades of bitumen.

They use cheap coarse bitumen on the roads in Tasmania these days... the Hankooks aren't too bad on it but the Bridgestones on our Tiida are very quiet.

Will be a real challenge to get a sporty looking tyre that's grippy and quiet but not more than say $200 a piece (not asking much am I   )

Just a thought, we could put the hard word on the government to come up with quiet roads as that is an environment issue i think?

It's not all about wanting to be Lewis Hamilton. It's also about safety.

i30manUK, i think in GB you would need performance tyres more than we would here in Australia as you drive a lot faster. here we are limited to 110KPH and thats only about 65MPH depending on what state there is a % or error some states allow only 2% over that limit if you get caught doing 30KPH over the limit they lock you up take your car and license away. so Kumho is good.

This is off-topic, slightly, but I can confirm that my kumho's behave rather well at 110mph. Bit of tyre roar but no deviation from the straight and narrow, on a very fast road at 06:30 when most folks are still in bed  :)

With my 17" rims i went with 225 x 45 x R17 Dunlop SP 9000 - only because the guy gave me a good deal.

They're overkill (bigtime), but gee they look great    :D

(I'll post pictures of the car once the body kit is fitted - sadly this won't be until December as Hyundai Australia has recalled all the bodykits due to paint/glue issues).

Not got a clue. I've stopped bothering with such details. I no longer reset my FC gauge at fillup, and it's currently showing 58.9mpg.

Have kumho's on this and last Hy car..

Always done the business and held road without problems.
when I've replaced, never had the same sureness and steadyness.

May be cheap UK imports??
