Hi guys & gals, had a search & found no reference to the alert my Hy is showing me, can anyone help?

2008 1.6 petrol Premium with TPMS. Noticed this morning I have an ornage alert on the dash & an "indicator" at the rear left wheel, presumably warning me that tyre is low pressure? Well I checkd all 4 tyre pressures with my digital Tyre pressure gauge & although all may be low at an indicated 27lb (should be 32lb & I'll sort that) Why is it just showing one (1) tyre as an issue?

Any thoughts welcome, could the TPMS be faulty in that wheel for example?

I'll pump all 4 up to 32lbs then see what happens, I hope the alert re-sets without a visit to a dealer...

Or can I not use an "ordinary" tyre pressure gauge with the Hyundai TPMS?

The design pressure for switch is 25.6psi, but I guess they vary a bit.

No problem using a regular gauge, just watch you don't snap the valve off when pumping it up, its only aluminium. If the thread looks corroded be VERY careful.

Of course check all round for nails and screws first!

Did you check the pressures immediately or a bit later, the first winter with mine I couldn't believe the christmas tree that lit up on the dash just cos it was a bit colder one day, so I am guessing that despite your gauge saying that they were all at 27, if the one that was causing the warning is actually at 26.5 and it was cold enough to drop that by another 1psi it would show whilst the others may still be at 26 and just not triggering?

The alert is still there even at lunch time a couple of hours ago, thats when I checked the pressures, alert flashed at me at start up 08.15 this morning, it was -10 degrees but its been colder with no alert...

All 4 tyres spot on 27lbs, set weeks ago on a garage pump... who the hell would trust them... I trust the TPMS... 

5lbs is amost 16% out..... a bit too much for me so I wont be trusting their gauges again any time soon.

Remember if you increase pressure now to 32 check again when the weather warms up otherwise you may be running at high 30's

I gave the tyre valves a dose of white spray grease as soon as I got the car after reading on here about the valve fragility & passion for oxidisation...

The Link from Lorian was useful, I just have to find a working pump to blow the beggars up, using my own measuring system, I used to check my tyres at least weekly but since I had the Hy with TPMS I got a bit lazy I guess... I need to get back into the routine, BUT... knowing MY luck lately its gonna be a failed wheel unit lost ECU contact I feel...

Yeah, its a problem because all the air leaks out ;-)

But seriously a few people have had issues.

There is possibly one root cause, using acidic wheel cleaner, the valve stems are aluminium.

If the valve threads start to corrode they are very susceptible to damage from leverage caused by using the air nozzles at garages (servos).

Incorrect tyre fitting can also damage them.

That said, my car is over a year old and mine are like new. I don't use corrosive cleaner and occasionally wipe them with some silicon spray or vaseline BP.

Dealers have been known to replace them under warranty.

Other manufactures vehicles (mazda for example) have the same issues, same valves.

A Very common problem..

Hyundai have recognised it as an issue and the new valves have a steel shaft instead of alloy and the price has increased

A TPMS warning will be initated if the pressure drops to 28PSi.. It will reset when the pressure is increased to 30.6PSi
