Thanks,

Picked up my "new to" me used i30 today, 1.4 comfort, 2009 which only has 9k on the clock. Just got to work out if the ESP light coming on is down to tire pressure differences or brake light switch fault... all gained from reading this forum!

I am hoping so, if it were a brake switch then I thought the light would appear on start up rather than half way through a journey and then disappear on restart

Hmm. But I'd expect the tyres to warm up in use and the pressures go up, but of course they are the first thing to check.

Inflated tyres to the correct pressure (shame dealer did not bother before selling it to me )
ESP still came on once in hundred or so miles of mixed driving.
Discovered the dust cover on shock absorber at rear needs gluing back in place as bouncing around due to being loose.

Not sure what to say to service dept about ESP if it does not come on for them?

You realise the ESP light comes on briefly if traction control kicks in?

If one of the shock covers is loose both with need doing for sure.

Yes, thanks I thought the other one would need to doing as it will probably go soon...

ESP comes on and stays on until engine restarted. Seems to be triggered at roundabouts

Its the "ESP Off" warning, same as if you had manually switched it off. Funnily enough the ESP off switch ceases to work after the warning comes on.

OK I checked the wiring schematics and the only things that look like they should light the "ESP off" light are:

The ESP off switch being asserted
Faulty Stop Lamp Switch or Wiring
Faulty Wheel sensor (any one of four) or wiring
Fault Hand brake switch or wiring
Fault in the ESP control module

Given it happens going around roundabouts my money is now on a loose connector on one of wheel sensors, but it could be the stop light switch of course. They connect using little twin connectors that look like they click together somehow (I'm looking at a diagram not the real thing).

But of course this is what the warranty is for.

Thanks Lorien, that's great info.

Will ring dealer today and hopefully they can find the fault with it being intermittent but I know these type of problems can be difficult to pin point. Any tips?

Hopefully when the attach their diagnostics tool it will show them a stored error code to point them in the righ direction. If not they should know the things to check.

I am hoping so. There used to be a way to get the diagnostic codes from my old car by pressing the trip counter reset while starting the car, handy if you don't have a scanner. Is there anything similar on Hyundai's?

I think so many get stored in non-volotile memory, if the fault fires one of course, not everything does!

Well its not come on since last Sunday but her majesty has been driving it so I will give it a good run out this weekend. Wondered if it is/was the tyres. Either way its still booked in for plastic suspension covers gluing back into place  :D

No light yet. Hopefully the ESP has calmed down now after correcting the type pressure. Did my best to provoke it last night.

Not had an issue with it for a couple of weeks but dealer says it needs a sensor replacing in steering column

Unfortunately the lady in the service department was only relaying a message from a colleague so will double check what they actually mean when the part arrives for fitting. However it was most definitely esp light which has not come on for two weeks since type pressures were corrected.

All strange, still not sure if they have just glued loose rear suspension gaiters in place or also replaced bumper stops as the message was unclear but bumper stops were mentioned in a garbled incomprehensible way.

My 2008 CRDi had intermittant ESP off light coming on, at the same time brake lights did not work and cruise control would not disengage when brake pedal pressed. Brake light switch was replaced and all good now.
