Hi All,

I just bought a brand new MY11 i30 CW diesel auto on Monday, and after just 500kms my Check Engine Light has come on and stays on  This is still on the first tank of fuel from the dealer.

I had idled for a few minutes before leaving, and thats when the light came on. Manual says it's not a major problem but unsure what sort of damage it could do at such an early mileage!

I will take it to the dealership tomorrow (John Hughs Hyundai), but its a bit frustrating to have a problem already. Anyone else have this problem on a new diesel?

cheers,
Devster

Very uncommon.

With a.engine light they should be able to tell what the fault is pretty quickly. Keep the revs low on the way.

It could be as simple as a loose sensor wire

Might find that top speed is limited.

Hi devster..Welcome to the club..If you browse the site you will see that the i30 (particularly the Korean built ones sold in OZ) are remarkably reliable compared to most other brands ..

I had a Diesel Hatch for 2 and a half years without one warranty claim made (had a couple of minor glitches but nothing worth taking her back in)

Is she driving normally?.. I guess you checked the oil and coolant levels?

EDIT: You have chosen an excellent model (we have just bought the wife a new CW) and the diesel motor is a GEM.. once this little glitch is sorted you will grow to really love your new car  :goodjob:

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback.

Took it in unannounced and they had a look at it straight away. They tell me it is the EGR (exhaust Valvevalve which is faulty. One is now on order from Sydney, and they've said its fine to drive until it's replaced next week.

By the looks of things https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=6847.msg80159#msg80159  some people block this valve off on purpose, but why would it trigger the engine check light?

Other than this the car has been great to drive. Im still babying it until it wears in so I haven't hammered it yet.

cheers,
Devster

Good stuff M8... You won't have to actually hammer the CRDi to get great performance (that is the beauty of the diesel.. ) 90% of the performance is available between 1500 and 3000RPM (certainly no need to rev past 3500RPM)

I rarely need to go above 2900RPM!

Glad they tracked the fault down OK.
