  • CW SLX 2.0 Auto Petrol Hyper Silver
Hi everyone, this if my 1st post.

I placed an order for a 2011 i30cw SLX auto hyper silver yesterday with a dealer. Expecting delivery in few weeks time. Can't wait!

Quick question,

1. Apart from checking the below 2011 upgrade features, is there other ways for me to find out if the model is indeed a 2011 model?

- bluetooth
- black headlamp bezel
- silver finish  to roof rails
- new titanium finish on 16” alloy wheels
- one touch triple turn signal
- headlamp escort function that leaves the lights on for 30 seconds.

Does anyone know when was the latest built date for Australia bound 2011 models? I just want to make sure that the dealer did got me a true 2011 model and not some late 2010 or early 2011 ones...

2. The dealer tried to sell me a paint protection + tinted film for windows (lifetime warranty blah blah blah) for my new i30, all for $995 (nego). I said i'll consider it as I haven't done much research on it. I mean, how can i negotiate when i have no clue of current market price for such things, right?

a. The justification for paint protection sounds compelling to me though, but do most i30 owners here have it too?

b. Windows tinting. This is a must and I used Melbourne's Tint Professor for my previous car.

Can anyone recommend a good paint protection + windows tinting solution in Melbourne? And how much do they typically cost? Which is best, get the paint protection done before or as soon as the car is delivered?

Much appreciated your response....:-)

John

Hi John,  Pop the bonnet look on the fire wall there should be a metal plate indicating the build date. Like "Feb 11". Sounds like a nice car   :goodjob: I want to get the SR later this year but I am undecided might get the diesel   :o  Jim

Welcome John.....
You'll be able to see when your car was built by checking the front passenger side door pillar. There's a plaque with the built date stamped in it.

Re paint protection, personally I wouldn't waste my money.....and I certainly wouldn't go through the dealer as you'll be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. The same goes with window tint.
Were you happy with the job Tint Professor did previously? If so I'd go with them and try to negotiate a better price than what they are advertising, I did and got it done for $265. After the summer (or lack of) we've had I suspect tint companies will be very keen for your business.

Yes sometimes these are on the drivers door too   :goodjob:

welcome aboard hornbill.   shop around for your tint mate, but like rusty mentioned $265 odd for tint is about the norm at the moment.  :goodjob:  the build and compliance tags are at the bottom of the l/h a pillar.   did you get given a Vin # yet,we can tell the build date from it also.

Welcome Hornbill .. The wife (Member TrishCW) got a My11 Manual Petrol CW without Bluetooth but with the cruise pack (Cruise and Driving Lights) in January which was of course a 2010 build, nice car  :D

Assuming  yours is a petrol too as Diesel not mentioned...

I agree with Rusty .. that paint protection is a waste of money and that aftermarket tint is better (well at least cheaper than the dealer anyway as they add a good margin just to take it there )

Keep in mind the CW tint will probably be arount $40 more than Rusty suggested because the CW has bigger rear windows...

Enjoy your new car..

Woww! Thanks all for your kind replies. I'm lovin' this forum already...:-)

I'll make sure I check the built/compliance plates in all corners when the car arrived. Will ask the dealer to put it on paper too.

My quick googling found that Toughseal paint protection seem quite popular out there. Does anyone here use Toughseal? Maybe I should get quotes from few detailers and see what happen.

Tint prof did a rough job on my current car before. Sent it back and they fixed it, but the guy forgot to rub off the dust near the window rubber seal (driver side). So, when I roll the window up/down, it scratches the tint film. Not good. I was busy at work, so didn't bother sending it back 2nd round. Maybe the guy was fixing it towards the end of the day..:-(

$265 sound like what I paid last time for tinting, but I'll expect slightly more as this will be a wagon. Will try get other quotes too, given my past experience with The Prof.

I see. Looks like Bluetooth as standard would be one of the main diffs between 2011 and 2010 models then. Thanks. Yup, mine will be a petrol. As i'll be driving mainly on the weekend for groceries and runnig errands, the diesel v petrol debate has long gone as I won't do much k's in a year.

Hi again Hornbill...

Rocket who is a member in Adelaide has his own body repair business and he recommends Jetseal (if you do a google or a Search on this site you will find out more about it..) It is pretty easy to do it yourself and $50 worth will do your car several times by the sound of it  :goodjob:

Hi Dazzler, thanks for that. Yep, saw few posts made about Jetseal in the forum. Looks like the stuff really works. Got a quote earlier from a detailer quoting me $495 - 5 yrs warranty for applying Toughseal on the car.

Although it's less than what the dealer quoted me, I still find it too much. On the other hand, time is really  not on my side and I'm not handy (patient) enough to apply the sealant myself. Especially on a new car.

Will probably do more research on this, get few more quotes and things should be clearer then. Car won't be here until few weeks time, so time is still on my side for now...

Tinting I'm not in a hurry as it's all an interior job, but will research on that too...

Thanks again.

I've never bothered with paint protection but Rocket made it sound so easy (and cheap ) to do it yourself I reckon I'll get some jetseal.

I have found since buying cars with clearcoat over metallic that they need little or no attention to look good for years BUT paint is a bit thin on the i30 and lesser Hyundai models so I may mend my ways..

Tinting is the first thing we get done on a new car as it makes such a difference to the inside temp (even in Tassie) and protects the upholstery and trim as well  :goodjob:

Less competition down here so we paid $395 for Black Azz on Trish's CW through Extreme window tinting  :'(
