My car; i30- Diesel 1600 Auto. Comfort.

I have read that the auto. gear box is only 75% efficient.

Users 25% more fuel, than manual gear box.

Cannot future Hyundai's have a  more efficient auto. gearbox?

Most of the newly developed Hyundai Models (e.g. IX35, I45 etc..) Have much more efficient 6 speed Auto boxes now  :goodjob:

Most auto boxes use a torque converter which causes the inefficiency - even when they have lock-up.

I have had two Audis fitted with the twin clutch DSG gearboxes - you can drive them as manual or fully auto. The gear changes in auto are hardly deciptible and I used to get better economy in auto than in manual - the gearbox was obviously a better driver than me.

Other manufacturers have followed suit and developed multi clutch boxes that are equally efficient.

So if you want an auto with manual economy - buy a car with a DSG gearbox or its multi clutch equivalent.

The new 6 speed i45 while not a DSG clone is more economical as an auto (7.9 LPH)than it is in manual form (8.0LPH I think)
