Has anyone installed a hood liner?  Was there any noticeable difference in the level of engine noise in the cabin?

Hi M8 .. in Australia all models appear to come with one already .. We currently have a 2.0 Ltr Petrol CW and used to have an SLX Diesel (both had/have hood liners) .. Both are fairly quiet engine wise even on the highway  :goodjob:

Are you talking about the bonnet?

If bonnet my car came already with a liner but I'm aware that later models in the UK do not have this liner.

I will say that the noise from my engine, 1.6 diesel, is very quite with the bonnet open or closed.

Thanks for the replies.    I think I'll get one.

I realize it's better to add extra insulation on the firewall between the engine bay and passenger compartment, but I don't want to go to the expense/trouble of doing that.

I had the hood/bonnet liner installed, and it has made a significant difference to the engine noise at 80+kph.  Below 80kph there wasn't any noticeable noise even without the liner.

Highly recommended for those who don't have it installed.

Not bad for only RMB100 (AUD15)

The next issue is tyre noise, which will have to wait until the current set of tyres are worn out.

Thanks for the feeback tla (good value) :goodjob:

You could add some soundproofing under the carpet as well  :D

I've considered soundproofing under the carpet, but that's not something I would like to do myself, and the quality of the workers here is a bit hit-or-miss.  I've also thought about spraying the wheel wells, but baulked for similar reasons.

Before the hood-liner, the sound of the engine at 80+kph was really noticeable and sounded like it was working hard; similar to a high-revving, short-stroke, motorcycle engine.   After installing the liner it is now a gentle buzz that I only really notice if I focus on it, and is drowned out by the tyre noise.
