I have a UK supplied /Czech build i30 Comfort CRDi auto, reg June 2010 but "2011" spec.  It has always been quite a noisy car, some of that may be down to the 16" Hankook tyres, but also suffers wind noise.  I suppose we have just learned to live with it though.
I had a few niggles to get sorted so took it to my local dealer in January.  They were non committal on most of the (albeit minor) issues, and said that the wind noise was the normal noise "from the mirrors", maybe take it back on a dry, less stormy day and when it didn't have winter tyres fitted.
However it was in at another dealer for its 1st service recently - so I listed the same wind noise.  They say it is caused by the door mirrors, and claim its OK when mirrors are removed, its a known issue and are awaiting a fix bulletin from Hyundai.
Can anyone explain?  Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Maybe the Czech mirrors are a slightly different profile    Can't recall that being an issue in either of the i30's we have owned or for many (if any) other members..

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
The only wind noise problem I have with my i30 has nothing to do with anything outside the vehicle :faint: :faint: :faint:

My 2007 is Korean built and have never really noticed wind noise.

Here are mine, not a brill view but you get the shape of them.

Do you have a picture of your mirror?

My i30 is built in Beijing, China.

The only time I have noticed any wind noise was on a very windy day.  I guess that the wind was coming in at an angle which was not directly head-on.

Nope - no roofrack & we don't do bullbars in UK (at least not on i30's!).  Only mod is mudflaps, but the wind noise was there before I fitted those.
Thanks for posting the pic eye30 - mine is the later ("2011 facelift") model with the sill & bumper extensions, 16" wheels & revised grill.  Not aware of any change to the mirrors but haven't compared closely.  Incidently - the i30 1.4 lendy car I had from dealer in January, that was similar vintage to mine - had the same issues - ie wind noise, front suspension clatter (mine now sorted), hiccupping radio sound unless TA switched off (mine now going to be replaced at last).

Thanks for all your interest so far - does no-one else in UK think their i30 is noisy, ie compared to Astra, Focus, Insignia etc?  Can anyone confirm /give detail of a known Hyundai issue with wind noise from door mirrors?

Hi,

My 2009 1.4 petrol has no noise from the mirrors. I think our mark 2 focus had more by a long way.

I have a Sept 2010 i30 CRDi Premium model. The main noise issue with the car is tyre noise - I have changed all the tyres to Yokohama Decibel low noise tyres which has made a slight improvement. (See separate thread on the topic). Comparing the car with friends diesel cars - Peugot 308, VW Golf and Ford Focus - using a decibel meter in the passenger seat, indicates that they are all similar to mine - just the Peugot having the edge at 2 DB lower cabin noise at 60 mph.

Cabin noise can be a very subjective issue - people vary in their sensitivity to cabin noises at different  frequencies. I have hearing loss, use hearing aids and am more sensitive to low frequencies. My wife is quite the opposite.

On a run this morning, out of curiosity, I folded the electric door mirrors whilst cruising at 60 mph - it made not the slightest difference
