Wont Start
The car won't go on the first push start attempt first thing in the morning. Will kick over on second press. Then on the odd occasion just keeps cranking over and wont start.  I have managed to get it to fire after keeping left foot on brake and pumping accelerator. It starts and continues to almost stall several times and eventually it keeps running (be it rough) for a period, then settles down to normal idle. You can let it run and shut it off after that and it starts first press of start button. The rest of the day it doesn't have any issue starting. And the next morning same thing. Its a lot worse if car doesn't get a run for a few days.
Have fitted new fuel pump, Crank position sensor and new Battery recently and problem not resolv...

Tail Gate
Does anyone have tips for removing it? I've pulled off the interior trim and taken out all eight bolts that appear to hold it on, but it won't pull off and I don't want to use excessive force to pull it off for fear of breaking it. I suspect there's a gasket or layer of sealing mastic that's holding it on, or there might be some sneaky hidden plastic hooks just waiting to be snapped off.

The rear washer nozzle has stopped working and I suspect it's the check valve under the spoiler, but I need to remove the spoiler to get at it.

Update: I found this document, so it looks like there is double-sided tape holding it on as well as the bolts.

TPMS
Hi,

does anyone know the oem part number for those low frequency tpms initiators mounted inside wheel arches for the i30 GD ?
Or, for that matter, for just about any EU-spec hyundai or kia.

Thank you

Clutch
Hi Folks,
I recently removed the clutch damper and installed a blanking plug after having trouble changing down gears, it definitely made a difference.
After around 1 week however the slave cylinder failed  and was leaking fluid, after removal I could see it was on its way out and quite badly rusted out internally so could have been a case of the straw that broke the camels back.

I have now ordered a new slave and master cylinder but wondering if I should replace the blank plug with a new damper. Has anyone done the delete and not had any issues afterwards? I'm happy to leave the blank plug in but wonder if any issues such as possible excess pressure popping the seals on the slave or master if the damper is not in pla...

Radio
Hi people,

I've been going through the process battle of changing out my failing GD-02 head unit with an aftermarket Sony one (xav ax3200). I figured it would be quicker and easier to just buy all the patch leads and adaptor cables. How wrong I was. So after spending way too much on just cables, waiting weeks, spending hours scouring for any reasonable documentation/manuals (and realising it would have been quicker/easier to just wire it myself) I've got everything working except for the steering wheel controls. Apparently I would need yet another "patch cable" for that because a "steering wheel" control harness isn't enough to give you steering wheel controls.

Does anyone know about the steering control output...

Vibration
My partner and I have 2015 diesels which are identical apart from mine being a grey SE and hers is a silver SE Nav. Her car experiences a vibration at around 60mph, which drops away if you accelerate through it. First thoughts would be wheel balance, but I swapped over wheels between the cars and I didn't get any vibration with her wheels on my car, and the vibration on her car remains with my wheels on. I fitted new front pads 6 months ago but didn't touch the discs as they still had plenty of life in them. If I drive to the speed where the vibration starts, then drop the car into neutral, the vibration disappears, which makes me think it's engine related. The vibration only started a couple of months ago.

Has anyone experienced...

Handbrake
Poor Norma the i30 is having a few moments…
Driving today, the handbrake warning light came on. The handbrake is definitely not on. So I’m guessing some sort of warning.

She was serviced in late November & the brake fluid was replaced (there were signs of moisture in it). Checked the fluid level now & it’s at max. There’s no sign of a leak. Handbrake is definitely not engaged while driving. The handbrake isn’t an EPB.

Faulty sensor maybe? I did think “well, it’s a 40 degree day” but brake fluid handles temps in the hundreds I think.

I’m going to call Hyundai roadside assist seeing it’s free. But would welcome any ideas.

I’m definitely not mechanically minded (my Dad is rolling in his grav...

Reversing Camera
Hello,

I have a 2014 Hyundai i30 diesel which used to have an old GD-01 head unit. I replaced it with a second hand GD-03 head unit following the excellent instructions from this site.

I'm now trying to install an aftermarket reverse camera, but I'm having trouble with the wiring.

I have wired it to the reverse lights, and I have mounted it above the number place. I've run the cable up to the rear of the GD-03 head unit. I have then taken the active video wire from the yellow Video RCA connector on the reverse camera and connected that to the "A9 Reverse" wire on the main harness of the GD-03 head unit. I was hoping that would then kick off the camera when I put the car in reverse, but no joy.
