Hello guys, my first post here

So, I've been having issues with P0404 error code on my Hyundai i30 FD, 1.6 CRDi, 66 kW. I've found some old threads that were discussing this issue, but can't find a clear solution to this problem, so I was wondering if someone had the same issue quite recently and managed to fix it.

Pretty much the deal is when outside temperature is above 20 degrees celsius, car tends to go into safe mode or "limp mode" where you have decreased engine power and rev limiter set to 3000 rpm. Sometimes CEL comes on when car gets into safe mode sometimes it doesn't.

What I've tried is to open up the EGR valve and it was absolutely filled with deposits to the point where the valve couldn't even move. I've managed to clean everything up, the valve doesn't seem to be sticking, but even after that P0404 still is coming up.

Went to my mechanic he assures me I need to change EGR, but based to replies from other threads based on this issue, the new EGR didn't fix the issue, since the part itself is quite expensive, would like to try other possible options before going for a new EGR. I belive the EGR cooler is in horrible condition as well if EGR was this bad. Should I try taking the car to the other mechanic to take everything off and properly clean it or maybe there is a different thing I should pay attention to?

DIESEL / Hyundai i30, 1.6 CRDi, double fuel consumption

Hello guys  :D

I'm the owner of Hyundai i30, 1.6 CRDi 66 kW, was wondering why sometimes board computer is showing double fuel consumption? I usually have around 4,5 l/100km , but it tends to raise that to around 9 l/100 km for short periods of time, every week or something like that, for about 20 minutes.

Thanks for replying quickly.  We have checked the fuses, but they are OK.
Will have to find someone to look at the clockspring then.
Thanks.

I have had my 2013 i30 from new. A few problems have started to creep in.
1) My horn doesn't work.
Start by checking the horn fuse(s)

2) L/100 will not reset with buttons on steering wheel.
Anything not working on the steering wheel panel tends to be blamed on the clockspring.

Wondering where and how I could get this fixed?

I don't think so. I'm sure I could get one, but I'm equally sure that I would have no idea what to do with it. 🙁
 Take the car to an auto electrician.  :goodjob:

@MKE.  Thanks for answering my questions above.  So, No smoke!  Apparently modern synthetic oils and the CAT are stopping exhaust smoke.   I did not know that.

Also, thanks for the link about the Hyundai class action.  Interesting.  I'd guess that this matter may have been raised previously on this forum, but I can't remember it (not unusual these days :(.).

Please update the forum about the results of the various tests your mechanic carried out which, hopefully, identified the issue with your engine.

Cheers, TT
