I tend to agree.
$20,000. If they want to sell it, they will.
And they have another one there ( a red one, so it goes faster) that is the same deal so given that they pay a lease plan on the cars they hold, it's costing them money to hang on to it.

Worst case they are trying to talk you up, which is a much harder prospect than you having to talk them down. You are far more likley to get closer to their lowest price this way, which is why they don't like it.

If they say no, ask them for their best price (they will probably give you one anyway), unless it it really good (like say $20,500 and even then demand floor and hatch mats), thank them for their time. By you making an offer you have shown two things, you are serious and have cash, they will more than likely call back after they have 'spoken to the Dealer Principal again for you'.

I dare say the whole FBT thing would have brought the car market to a screeching halt and they will be very interested to get rid of a car pending the result of the election. As DB rightly points out, it is costing them money, and their only other option is to send it to auction, where it will be offered for sale to other dealers who are thinking the same thing....

I found another car, Victoria this time. 13000km, $24000, heated seats and it's white! Perfect combo! It says drive away no more to pay, so not sure if that includes registration.  But how much do you reckon I can get it down to? It's a dealer.

Valid point, hopefully that will cut off 1000 or less in rego.. Then I try and haggle the rest. Do you think 21000 delivered is possible?

Hmm, they were eager to not shift from 21,777, but they ended up reducing the price of the car to 20,999. This is for the car that I offered $20,000 in WA.

Tell them, $20,500 and you'll take it.

I offered them 20,500, waiting for a response.

I also offered the Victorian dealership $21,000.

Excluding on road costs, so that explains $500 of it.

Seems like an easy decision if you can get delivery thrown in

Hmm, they said they won't be able to throw transport costs in, but I've gotten a quote of around $1000 to transport it from the dealership to a Sydney depot. Which will bring the cost up to $21,000 with 11,000km

Or I can get the one from Victoria which I could possibly get a mate of mine to deliver, since he works at a transport company. They might be able to deliver it, but worst case he'll drive it down for probably $200 max I guess?

By the end of that, it'll cost $21,500, and includes floor mats, tinted windows, heated seats, etc. with 13,000km.

Thoughts? Any are appreciated.

Do I understand this correctly?
The WA dealer refused an offer of $20,000 and then reduced the price to $19,999?  :wtf:

They refused an offer of $20,000 including transport, so I guess they'd take $20,000 but I'll then need to pay $1000 on top to get it here. But yes, I offered them $20,000 previously yet they declined, haha. Probably just want to handle customers that are based around their dealership.

Hmmm, might consider that. Just been busy with university, exams, etc.

The Vic one will be a lot more convenient to get your hands on IMO and no one drives a car as carefully as it's owner. Get down there and drive it home yourself, if at all possible.

I agree with Phil..... :goodjob:

And if you decide to have the Vic rego cancelled you'll still be able to drive it home by using an "Unregistered Vehicle Permit"

Mmmm, probably should.

I'm pretty happy with the one in Victoria, a little more than I was hoping for in terms of money but it seems alright. I was able to negotiate $21,000, excluding on-road costs from $23,990. I'll talk to my parents and see what they say though..

True mate.

Talked with the 'rents, and we're probably going to go with the Victorian one. It'll probably round up to $23,000 when registration, insurance and stamp duty is paid.. When I call them tomorrow to confirm it, I'm going to try get them to pay stamp duty, or half of it, and see what they say.  :P

Again, appreciate all the feedback and responses from everyone, its been a big help. Especially db08, appreciate you taking the time to check the car out in Western Australia during your free time, especially for a bloke that only signed up to this forum just over a month ago. Very pleased to have signed up to this forum, and I'll be sure to stick around.

Cheers.
