I needed to replace an entire mirror including housing with one that I'd got from an Ebay breaker and was searching for a how-to.
There's this very detailed how-to on taking apart the mirror:
Removing/Replacing door mirrorbut it does not mention the simple method to remove entire mirror with it's housing. So I thought I'd add it here.
To remove a side mirror with housing completely:
1. Fully open front window next to the mirror.
2. Firmly grasp the triangular black tweeter unit (may have to get fingernails under one edge) and pull very firmly in direction of steering wheel, it is retained by a spring pole clip that's all. Beware there's a delicate cable connected to the tweeter unit.
3. Unclip the mirror electrics connector.
4. Remove 3 bolts (or nuts) and mirror can be taken off.
5. Reverse process to replace the mirror. Putting the tweeter back can seem tricky but once you align that spring clip it goes back easily and sits firm again.
At some point Hyundai decided to change the fitting on the mirror from 3 bolts that go into threaded sockets to 3 nuts that thread onto protruding bolts. I was switching from bolts to nuts design. So I had to obtain 3 x 6mm bolts, washers and spring washers and with a hacksaw shorten one of the (rather long) bolt threads that seemed to be fouling the tweeter connector. Apart from that it was a perfect swap.
Maybe this post could be merged into the above mentioned thread?
