I had my car windows tinted through Tint Professor and paid $295, but don't know what level of tint I got (not the darkest).

I'm thinking about getting them retinted to the darkest legal, which Tint a Car do, but I've been quoted $595 for new tint and removal of the old.

How much has everyone else paid for the their tinting?  There's only about 4 places where I live that does tinting (2 well know, 2 not so much well known).

I paid $260 from the Dandenong branch of Tint Professor. 

At the time I was quoted $320 from Tint A Car.....

Yeah TAC back then (Dec 08/Jan 09) was around $395 too, but I went the cheaper option. And then a few weeks later, TAC had a special...grrr.

Might get a quote from TP for new tint and removal.  They have darkest legal option now.

Hi Pp I doubt it would be worth having them re-done darker.. I believe it is quite a big job to remove the old tint and so it doesn't surprise me they are quoting nearly $600. Our original hatch was about $300 from extreem tinting in 2008 and the CW was a little more ($350 from memory earlier this year)

Here in the Uk we don't need to consider tinting to keep the car cool as we never seem to get more than 2 days of sunshine together.

As Daz says, they job of removing the film is quite lengthy, as the residue left is a nightmare to clean off, where i got mine tinted they were charging £50 ($80ish) to just clean the back window glue, and then a further £80 to re-tint($125ish). Being a good customer they waived the £50.
Only reaosn I got my rear re-done was due to me being an eejit and leaving the headrest on the parcel shelf, the metal leg kept hitting off the rear window and by the time i moved it, it was to late, a tiny nick in the tint, and it was wrecked lesson learn.

I payed originally £100 to get the back windows (legal area) tinted as dark as possible 5% light in,aka limo tint. ($160ish)

If i remember correctly that was before the back window was redone
Origially it was 5% at the sides and 20% light in at the back (dark smoke) this was to make it easier to see out of at night when reversing... after changing it went to 5% due to the fact 'cuz i can'

Can't see sh!t all out at night and having the chromatic auto dimming rear view mirror doesn't help, an no wiper.... style over practicality I think would sum it up nicely.

However If you have the dark smoke fitted all round, 20%light in it should be sufficient.

If you want to remove the tint yourself it may reduce your price. Though there's a product that My guys used called Tint-off i think to remove the glue, alternatively petrol or accetone(nail varnish remover) should work, takes a very long time tho, friend spent best part of an afternoon removing only the front tint off an evo!

Thats not true, we had four days at least in Northern Ireland last year.... followed by torrential rain

Me thinks this may be a myth the tint companies are happy to exploit......

Well that is interesting    The Corolla I got for my stepdaughter last year has a really milky back window tint and they quoted her a fortune to remove it.. We ave a steamer, maybe I should try it

awesome.. wonder would a heat gun do a similar job, after all , all you are doing is reversing the process, so softening the glue. and peeling it off..hmmm

My sister put a box in my boot and somehow it's scratched the rear tint.  Unless I just get the back replaced?  TAC have an interest free payment system, so might do that over the course of 12 months.

sure it's near christmas etc, good will and what have you

But replacing the back window only would be a more feasible option, no point in doing all of them,

And yeah, i'd love to try that method in the video

Don't think so... We only just found out about it... (and not many take their tint back off on a late model car)

It needs a good proper clean and then the boot build finished off, a lot of bits and pieces to tidy up

In Regards to window tinting. My personal opinion is if its being done, do it properly, no point going to a very subtle tint, waste of money. You pay the same regardless of shade.

The 20% dark smoke looks well, but I just prefer blacked out. The car looks completely different without the privacy film

I always ask for the darkest legal tint but seems to vary in darkness with every car I get done.. Trish's CW wasn't done in my signature photo but I don't think it looks as dark as my hybrid even now
