The vehicle i bought last week is just coming up to a year old. It was serviced before i picked it up and the servicing book was stamped for the 1st year service.I noticed in my paperwork that for the corrosion guarantee you have to have another book stamped at certain intervals to say it has been inspected. I rang Hyundai (local dealer) and they told me there is a £25 charge for them to just look at it and stamp the book to state there is no corrosion so far. Does that sound right? I assume they probably just do it when servicing the car and charge people who do not use them for servicing. I just thought £25 for not very much seemed a bit steep.
I think £25 is very reasonable
They want £25 to do the inspection because I explained the car had already been serviced by The Car People less than a week ago whom i bought the car from. I have got the servicing book which was stamped last week and also the corrsion guarantee book which also needs stamping.
Is £25 too much for a Hyundai technician to come out and spend time looking at your car in order to ensure the corrosion warranty is kept in force? You may be correct in that a quick visual inspection is " not very much", but remember the hourly rate you and I pay for a dealership mechanic at any garage is somewhere in the region of £100/h. I Surely you are not expecting the dealership who did not sell you the car and have not serviced the car to do that work for free?I think £25 is very reasonable

I must admit that I thought a Free 10 year warranty might indeed be free ... I take your point about the non-selling dealership but at the same time this is the first I have heard of a £25 fee and over 10 years that would be ermmm errrrr somewhere in the region of £250. It's not exactly headlining on any of the adverts As I don't have a local dealer, so would have to travel and wait - the paint warranty is looking less enticing than it did.
But..... BUT.... your check will be carried out at the time of the service at the Hyundai garage where it is carried out. Our new friend PAID ANOTHER garage to do his service and now wants Hyundai to work for FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That puts me in a similar position, not sure it is worth the hassle, travel & expense just to have someone check for extra paint jobs for them It feels like putting the fox in charge of the hen house
I've not checked the T&C's but surely the servicing garage should have done the inspection as part of the service.
If it had not already been serviced it would have gone in the dealers this week to be done as it would have been due. it was not a requirement with my previous Hyundai (albeit that was some years ago).

I would have just been a bit miffed if they charged £25 for a 2 min job but it seems that is not the case. I don't mind at all paying for fair work, and as everyone seems to be saying the charge is reasonable for what they do, my question has therefore effectively been answered. Thanks all.
I bought the Accent from a garage facing Oldham college which closed a few months later than the warranty went to a dealership in Springhead and that closed a few years back. The name escapes me though.I moved to Prestwich so my local dealership now is not too far away.
As some of you know I used to be a service manager at a VW/Skoda dealer some years ago. Before 2002 Skoda also charged costumers for a annual corrosion check, but in 2002 a new EU law stated that if the manufacturer demands an annual inspection for you to keep a warranty, they are not allowed to charge you for that inspection. That is regardless of the service being done at the authorised dealer or anywhere else. (or not at all)However, if it's called an insurance, then they are allowed to charge you for the inspection.
