Mine has a light which can be seen when opened, when the car lights are switched on that is

yeah, i heard that there were supposed to be lights when the headlights are switched on, but when i pulled the ashtray out and also the 12v and cigarette lighter compartment out, there was no possible way of any lighting to be wired there/no wires for lighting in my car...maybe the earlier releases didnt have the light? 07 compliances maybe?

a friend from hyundaiclub here  opened that thing up, he said the wirining was there and he made some mods and installed a led of his own. a thing which should have been stock.

yeah, its easy to tap into the power cables behind the 12v/cigarette lighter faceplate. its how to tapped the power to run my neons to the back of the cigarette lighter...just the process of GETTING the faceplate out is a b!@tch..lol..i think that russ or somebody had put a guide/a couple of pics of how it looks, but if u want, give me a shout and i can take some more pics

Nowadays, due to our economic crisis, we should smoke drained weed wrapped in free-press (i think City Press has an adequate paper quality) 
Of course, it's better to don't smoke at all...

The cables with illum power is the pink(+) and black(- ground)

Around the plastic of the cigar lighter(in the last photo) i mounted a little bulb with a tie wrap.

My next goal is to install Door lights like this by using led strips....

As a "devil's advocate" would say,
the odd feeling, resultant of the uneven illumination, helps you to stay away from smoking, by not pulling the ashtray out too often.
After all, smoking is a bad habbit.

Does the light comes on only when you pull the ashtray out and lights are on?
And if there are no screws, how do you pull out the lower compartment?

The ashtray light comes on only when the lights are on even the ashtray is closed.
About the lower compartment (cigarete lighter) i pulled it out very easily.
You push the gear knob base,lift the plastic base and then pull backwards....
