Considering a barrel of sweet crude oil last night was down at $48USD, our pump prices (and yours) should be 3/4 that amount  :?

I saw petrol for 1.119 (might have been E10 though) yesterday driving home from work for cheap Tuesday.

At the Shell servo's along Roberts Road Greenacre.

There was an article in the local paper yesterday saying that Diesel is on the way down (just in time for farmers to do their harvesting) ... The way it read we should see reasonable reductions in Aus in the next week or two... We are still 1.50.9 here in Devonport (less 4c docket)

Noticed a couple of stations in my area are now doing ULP for 89.9p/l.

I saw a graph in the paper On Friday, when a barrel was $75 we were being charged 89.9, when it hit $145/barrel we were on 126.9p/l and now it is $48/barrel we are back to 89.9.

Try as I might I can't find the linear relationship between the two, I guess they just make it up as they go along

I think it's all about greed Brian. I thank the supermarkets for forcing the prices downwards closer to where they should be

Still hasn't changed much in my area.
I'm loving the economy though of the diesel. I filled up a bit over a week ago and last week only did very short town trips e.g 5mins to get to work Mon - Fri (I'll be honest, I perhaps wasn't driving as economically as I could have been... )

And three 30mins (one way) trips to see family (prob about 25kms one way) on the weekend. Anyhow, needle is just under 3/4 and I've nearly done 400km's.

This tank could last me another 2-3 weeks easily.
Looking forward to the Canberra meet so I can do a proper economy test

THANK the supermarkets? They're the reason prices stayed up so long in the first place! It's only since the small independants started their highly publicised "99c fuel" last month that the Supermarkets felt pressured into lowering prices.

Exactly. Petrol companies (ie Shell: Coles; and Caltex: Woolworths) have been price-gauging for the last few years, blaming government taxes. It's about time the price went down to match the market - if the Australian government had done something about their duopoly, maybe there wouldn't be such a horrible hole in everyday Australian's pockets...

THANK the supermarkets?
Yes.

Over here the franchises keep the fuel prices as high as possible. They only reduce them when the giant supermarkets decide on a price war. Without the likes of Tesco, Asda (Walmart) and Sainsburys we would still be over £1.25 a litre.. because of the war in the last month (started by Asda I believe) it's now down to £1.06

Wow, then you are lucky. Over here, the two largest supermarkets (Coles and Woolworths) own about 50-60% of the petrol stations, with BP owning another 20-ish%, and then there's all the small ones. The small ones all purchase their fuel from the large 3, so they ensure that the small ones can't undercut them, and can't make much of a profit either. BP don't have the financial resources to try and undercut the two supermarkets, so they just keep pace at the same price, making the most of the profit they can get. So the Big2 make the price whatever they want.
Recently a couple of small servos decided to sell their petrol at insanely cheap prices to get media attention to their plight - that they're buying petrol at extremely unprofitable prices and can't do anything about it. In the 4 weeks following, the Big2 have lowered their prices by about 40c (in Sydney at least). Global oil prices and the Australian dollar went down long before they decided to drop their prices.

It was reported on the Adelaide TV news that some outlets are currently selling unleaded petrol for just under a $1 at the moment.

That is not the case out where I live though.

Your Right George ( you are rarely wrong infact)
A few months back they were saying petrol would be $2.00 by Christmas, where as it might well slip below a dollar heres hoping. Pity I drive a diesel :'(
Only joking, I love my diesel, would like to see diesel costs drop in line with ULP though

I think it will come down more. If Unleaded gets down to $1 across the board I predict Diesel will eventually come down to around $1.20 but probably neither will stay down for long...

Petrol should stay as long as the global financial crisis continues, and it will probably continue for another year or so yet. Failing businesses (all businesses) are trimming everywhere, so until global consumer spending begins to increase, coupled with growth in business profitability, demand (speculation) for fuel will be low, so prices should stay where they are.

And my local cheap Woolworths station is selling normal Unleaded at 1.049, and Diesel at 1.485... Poor Diesel'ers.

Diesel at Tesco 1 hour ago was £1.049/litre.

Was that after the 5p voucher or pump price?

I'll check my local Tesco out tomorrow.
