No, requires a lot of effort for what you get, but better than dying of thirst. Are you intending to use one.

Coral Bay Caravan Park in WA runs reverse osmosis. They suck up water from a bore which is over a mile deep and need to run it thru the rev osmosis system before running it thru the parks water system. Give them a ring and they should be able to give you all the ins and outs of the system

Yes, I have used one before.  That is the way that warships get their fresh water.  Better quality than what you get in the town systems IMO.  But, and it is a big but, the Navy's system wasn't cheap to install, run or maintain.

It turned sea water into fresh water, depending on the ship I was on, made the difference between having a good supply or limited supply.  But this was more to do with storage of the water.  Oliver Hazard Perry Class FFGs could only store 25 tonnes of water, with a crew of around 220 (during peak operations), whereas the Anzac Class FFH could store 40 tonnes with a max crew of 180.  More storage, less people, less water stress.

thanks all, i am going to try a small unit just to filtrate drinking water, to eliminate flu ride & the the rest. see how it goes, not on the scale of the navy

We use one of these from Kmart which works a lot better than these reviews! 3 x replacement filters only cost $18 and they last 3 months each

you got tank water?
that's the best, i drank some beautiful spring water in Tassie. the best must have been from Lake Skinner, good walk to get there too.

Yep  (2 x 10,000 Gallon Concrete tanks = nearly 90,000 litres)
