Hi,

We just got our new i30 back from it's first inspection. One thing I noticed was the service centre had inflated the tyres to around 37psi. Wondering why would they do that considering the recommended pressure is the standard 32psi? Is it better to run these K415 tyres higher?

I don't trust petrol station gauges much, although new ones seem ok if you overinflate a few psi and then lower to what you want, so use a digital guage I bought for my mountain bike.

cheers,
si

G'day Si...

Many of our members run these sorts of pressures, in fact I run 38 psi all round.
Besides helping with fuel economy, the higher pressures sharpen up the handling a bit.

The ride might be a whisker harsher but the benefits outweigh that, in my opinion.  :goodjob:

Ok, thanks, so long as it's not going to cause premature wear, happy to give 38 psi a shot and see how it goes.

I already like the handling in our car, it seems to perform well in the Adelaide hills, but I'm coming from a 22 year old Subaru liberty wagon, so not too hard to be impressed ;-)

Cheers Si.... :goodjob:

While I have no proof, I suspect running 32psi would actually result in premature wear, more so with the added weight of the diesel engine which as far as I know, Hyundai make no allowances for with their quoted tyre pressures.  :undecided:

Si common practice to run higher than recommended pressures in any front wheel drive car, actually helps tyre wear,I actually run 40 psi in the fronts and 36-38 in the rear

I also run 40 up front and rear as well since I lug around a lot of work related stuff, probably 60 to 80 kilos all up.

Oh... By the way what is a Hanook??? :D

Si,

Did you check when hot or cold?

If hot then psi would not be 32 due to heat generated in the tyre highers the psi
