Hi Hemmi...it's been a while since you last posted some photos.
Will you keep us waiting more time? :))

hmm, I've posted so many pics of my car, I thought people were getting tired of it

That's impossible! Especially if you take photos of your car in those great landscapes from Iceland.

Keep up the good work ;)

If I had Hemmi's photographic experience I would open a web site selling landscape pictures of Iceland and also get some into a few art gals and shops.  I think you can even get pictures printed on canvas these days

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I was distracted and hit the car in front of me in a busy road today, thankfully this all happened at low speed. The license plate also got a little crumbled.

I'll go to my insurance company tomorrow to estimate the damage, my insurance will pay for the other car who got minor damage, they will also repair my car, I'm not sure how much I have to pay, I only have to pay a minimum fee, I don't remember what my minimum responsibility is, hopefully not much :'(

I dont think I get a new bumper since the damage isn't that much.

Ohh well I'm just glad there wasn't more damage.

Back from the insurance and the guy there estimated the damage around 250000 isk (1320 gbp)

My co-insurance fee is 65000 isk (345 gbp)

I have 4 years to repair the car, so I'm in no hurry, I also don't have any money now, so I'll just wait for a few months.

I have 4 years to repair the car,

Sorry to here of your mishap.

Never heard of a deferred repair?

Seems a lot (250000 isk (1320 gbp)) for a few scratches.
Are they going to respray the whole front end or what do they intend to do?

The bumper is too damaged to be repaired, the crack in it goes all the way to the fog light, it's cheaper to get a new one and spray it. They also have to repair and spray the upper bodykit (the one at the grille) + I will let them repair the scratches I have on my lower bumper (bodykit) from another incident :)

But anyway this was just a rough estimate I will get a better price when I get this repaired, I only have to pay my co-insurance

Given the new parts the price seems more reasonable.

Hi Hemmi...i'm sorry for the damage :(. This has also happened to me today on my way to work when a taxi driver wasn't paying attention and ran a little into my back. But mine is ok, you can hardly see a scratch...it was a very minor impact.

The co-insurance fee is a fix sum or depends of the total damage in Iceland?

Don't worry Hemmi. In the end, it's just a car (a nice one, but still..). You'll fix it and that will be it. Be happy there wasn't any pedestrian between you and the car in front :) That would be much worse.

If you'll be takin' pics, take them from behind and that's it

My co-insurance is 65.000 isk, it doesn't matter if the damage is 250.000 isk or 1.000.000 isk, I always pay 65.000 isk, I don't have to pay it if I don't want the repair.

I think the minimum co-insurance is 60.000 isk, if you choose higher like 100.000 isk or 150.000 isk you dont pay as much yearly for the insurance. I choose 65.000 isk but that mean my yearly insurance is a little higher, but instead I pay less if I have an accident.

If you'll be takin' pics, take them from behind and that's it

Or just fix the damage in Photoshop

Hemmi

We have places in the UK which do plastic welding, do they exist in Iceland??

Just thinking that an invisible weld and spray would be a cheaper option than a complete new bumper and could possibly be the same cost to yourself as your isurance excess where you would not have to claim on your insurance and lose your 10% discount on all insurances next year

I've heard of plastic welding, probably somebody here who does that.

It doesn't matter if I fix this myself I will loose my 10%, my insurances will have to pay for the damage on the other car.

So the best thing in the situation is to go to some auto repair shop and send the bill to my insurance, and I then pay my part.

Re insurance.
If you paid for the repair to the other car would that be less than or equal to the 10% you'll loose on renewal?

If so, could you pay then you would not be penalised.

I think Hemmi should retake his driving test - he's clearly a driver who's easily distracted.

Actually, scrub that, he should be taken off the road. I'll buy your i30 Hemmi - how does 300000 isk sound?

My yearly insurance (car+apartment) is 134.798 isk (£710)

So the 10% discount is somewhere around 13.000 isk (£69) I'm pretty sure the fix on the other car costs more
