Where it all began.  :offtopic:

My mate's car ticked over to 'classic' last year. It is a rare and beautiful thing - only a handful made it to Australia through private hands. And the engine... it snarls and barks when proded but purrs like a kitten when cruising. The dogleg he's putting in it will only make it better.

When wishing/drooling for some early race breed heritage then imo it would have to be some true Aussie muscle cars.

The XU1 Torana, SLR 5000 A9X Torana, the E48/E49 Chargers, all the Monaros, the GTHO Phase 111

Sorry :disapp: I was in the process of getting the other pictures but I've just gone over my internet limit and now it's to slow to browse pictures :disapp:

The Charger did get a mention though :) thanks for adding the pic, you can add the others I mentioned if you like.

I'm gonna pretend you guys didnt say that. Beauty is more than skin deep. And beyond that is the heritage also. They spawned the first road going performance/racing cars and original evos.

Give me a phase 3 any day of the week.

I would take one over almost any other car out there. Even with the skinny bike wheels! !!!!  :Drive:

This thread has well and truly gone off topic.
Someone start a new thread about old school muscle and I'll be the first to subscribe.

I enjoyed driving them in my you youth, but at that time servo's did not put the price they sold fuel for out the front , it was so cheap.
But I'll bet few of you would enjoy driving them on a hot day in heavy traffic.

I love all of the old classic "Muscle Cars", from the little XU-1 up to the Phase 3 GTHO, all marques, all years!!  I would love to be able to afford any one of them.  I don't know how much a Phase 3 sells for now, but a few years ago they were going for over $500,000.  Hence why there are a lot of replicas out there.  One of my mates in Melbourne has an original L34 Torana.

I did hear a classic line about the Phase 3 GTHO, "Of the 500 original Phase 3s built, only 750 remain."

Mopar muscle all the way. Love AP5/6, VC, VJ and CL/CM of the Aussie variety.
US Mopars gotta have Charger, Challenger, Roadrunner, Darts.......the list goes on.

My dream weekend cruiser is a Plymouth Valiant 2-door. Very much the same as the AP5/6 in Australia but we never got the 2-door.

Don't get me wrong though. I know how to respect and enjoy any make & model.

Yeah :goodjob2: any of the old Yank muscle cars which rolled on to inspire some of our Aussie ones are all favourites of mine, even some that didn't start as Muscle cars but were quickly assimilated into that genre like the 30's Fords, 50's Chev's.

If we're going to take it back that far ill throw in '34 Plymouth Sedan/Deluxe.
(I think I like Plymouths :D)

Looking at the motor's above was the Aussie car scene influenced by the American cars in the earlier years and how as it changed today are you more inclined  towards the smaller European type of vehicle.

In the case of Mopars the earlier Aussie stuff was just American vehicles. At best they got some different panels. Even through the golden years they were heavily based on American platforms but styling was more localised.

As for my inclination towards euro styles? Nah......but Korean styling Hell Yeah. If I could have and drive the 2-door I posted above I would. Just a dream for me at this point in my life though.
