they dont use primer on the bumpers from the factory... hell they dont even use primer on the body, its just straight up dipped (zinc?) then paint straight over it...

you willl find primer is a thing that panel beaters use not the factory...

Thats why the paint is not the same color on the whole car, some stupid things where they try to save money, make problems like this.

Picture number 2 looks like stone-chip damage caused by the rear door being very slightly out of alignment. It has been reported previously on CW versions where the design means this could be more common.

On the Ceed, which also appears to suffer more from the issue, there is clear protective tape applied to the bodywork in this area.

However, on several pictures of this type of damage I've seen before it is a more worn, sanded look, rather than the chips you have. They also look a little like they have already been touched up at some time, but maybe thats just the photo. Perhaps this is a further indication that your paint is brittle.

I think they might just give it a little

Perhaps there were some problems on a few red ones though.

I know. The dealer , actually the official service fixed last 2 damages, but till now it occured on front bumper, on both sides, on drivers door, on the roof. :( I am sick of going all the time to the service for paint job, I have been 10 time in last 2 months. I dont have time for this kind of things.

I have sent official letter to my dealer to do something according to the warranty and law of our state, or else I will seek the justice by court, and that will not be good thing for Hyundai dealer here. I offered two solutions, which I got from one expert , and those are:

1)Hyundai dealer will have to get me a new car

2)To paint whole car, give me new 3 years of warranty for paint work, and to service my car next 3 years because my car will have less value after paint work.

I would prefer the first one , and I think that is the only right solution because people from service told me that even they paint whole car they cant guaranty me that paint will not start peel of again. Because they cant take whole paint off, and every layer they left of old paint can be cause for peeling of again. And this is big issue, because you cant change all parts which are painted, it is easy when you have any other problem, you change the part and it is ok, but how to change whole bodywork? :-S

Do you agree? Any suggestions?

I would be pushing them to replace the car. In the thread I linked too earlier in this thread i30mania said at least one person in the greek owners club got a replacement car for the same fault with the paint.

I would also do that but it would be much easier if I had some proof from fabric or someone who is higher than my official dealer that this what is happening to my car is fabric defect , so then I could much easier get what I want, and that is a new car because this one is great in way of mechanic , but this paint issue is real problem and there is no much solutions for it.

Does anyone have email from Hyundai Europe, or Hyundai Korea to who I could complain about my issue, please?

Problem again with paint,

I was washing my car few days ago and I noticed strange looking damage on my car near mudguards, i was again stunned. I am posting you pictures. I went to service and they sad that I have to go to the dealer, and visit technical director , so he can tell me is it physical damage or factory one. I want and after 1 hour of arguing he sad it is factory damage. It seems that this damage appeared only on one side of the car. Also you remember that i complained about paint on my front bumper, he sad that is normal thing like it can be seen on any car, but now paint started to peal off on the ends and under the headlights. :SSS CATASTROPHE :(((

I had little chat with paint workers from the service and they sad that my hood has been painted 5 times :((( It seems like fabric has painted it 5 times till they succeeded to paint it wheel, also they sad that if they were on my place they would give back the car and asked money back because they can fix every damage on the car when warranty is there, but what will I do when warranty is over, and that is next year, also what will i do when i decide to sell my car, any better technician will tell that the car has been painted many times :((( and sadly but that is the truth, till now I have painted hood, now sides of the car, I will have to paint later my bumper, and so on :(

First picture is my front bumper where you can see there is no prime paint, so that is the reason why the bumper is darker.
Second and third are pictures of the paint damage which i founded.

People give me some advice, what should I do :(

Emm..the second picture.. I have the same problem (or even bigger). Maybe you can find my thread on this forum regarding that. I think it was "big problems with paint". Something like that.

Anyways..I know quite "a lot" of people that have those problems. Beside on i30, also on Kia Ceed and even some other "European" brands. Usually the services avoid fixing it under warranty and advise you to fix it yourself (to pay), install mudguards and to put on the transparent stickers on those parts (you can probably buy it at Hyundai service/dealer especially for i30/i30CW/Ceed/CeedSW - at least that's the case here). So..people usually end up taking their car to service, get it fixed (pay at least around 100€) and then buy the stickers, which cost around 40-60 € I think. Not sure. I still didn't fix my, just don't have the time.

But..the first picture is a bit more problematic. My girlfriends father had the same problem on his Hyundai Accent, but when the Accent was around 8 years old. He was washing the car with the high pressure compressor and the color started peeling of. You get the filling, like the paint is actually dirt, which washes off, under high pressure..

Hope you fix it..

My Daughter's first car was a Pink Excel and the paint peeled off the bumpers on that when it got older (I have seen several of that colour with the same problem) some colours must be worse than others for that problem.. You would think Hyundai would have sorted it by now..

Hi Bosnia, your problems are terrible. I'd be talking to a solicitor about now.
By the way, what is "fabric"? I'm guessing it's a translation issue. Fabric is what clothing is made out of. My interpretation is that you mean "factory". is that right?

I would understand my problem if my car was 7 years old, but i bought it 2.5 years ago, in February 2008, as new car, and till now color peeled from my bumper, hood, roof, place under drivers and passangers door, drivers door. I think that is too many places for a new car, and from the number I can say it is obvious that it is factory defect, they can say there is no problem on other cars but it can happened on some, maybe on 1 of 1000 shiny red i30s, but it can happened, and it will not be fair if they do not do something, because then the 5 year warranty would be one big lie just for selling more cars.  After the hood they sad it will not happen any more, but then roof happened, what can I espect then , in 2.5 years, all color to peel of :( .

Hi Bosnian,

I think in Balkan region comes just sheets from everywhere!!!!

I had problem at first with the driver airbag light and after 3 times in  service they fix it!!!! Some connector was not correctly attached :-) Stories for babies:-))))

After that my shock was replaced because all liquid was out from it. And now I have problem the paint, at first on the hood like it looks like a spider net and last week I noticed on the roof big spot without color :( CATASTROFA!!!!

I will go to my official dealer to see what they will say. In Macedonia there is law that when you buy something and if the product is failure for 3 times in warranty period they must give you the same product or to give money back

I will post if I have some news!!!!!

UPDATE:

Finally I have finished with my Hyundai dealer in Bosnia, and they took my complains in consideration, looked one more time damage and finally admitted that it is fabric defect. Naturally I had to write really long report to them one month ago with all clues and proofs that I got, and few times mentioning word court, sue you and etc.:) . They will paint my whole car for FREE. :))) Now I will see will I chose red again or maybe white :)

Now I have to get a bonnet protector so I don't have problem this winter with stone chips. Can anyone help me with this one? What is the price of this item? where can I get it?

That is good news Bosnia_i30 ..

I would stick with red as white over red is sure going to show up if you get any stone chips or stuff (can't imagine them taking it back to bare metal first)
