The list from Hy that has been published here before seems not to really be a "recommended" list but just a list of available xW30/40 that meets B4.

Well, This "grenade" sure has created some fireworks for Rustynutz   :D   Sorry mate!!!

No worries, Tony.... :goodjob:

Interesting that the Nulon container does not say B4...I assume then that it said B5?

Yep, B5....but of course this is a different bottle to what you were looking at.

The container that I quoted from a few posts back is 5W-30 Long Life Diesel and Petrol Engine Oil, Not the straight diesel oil. It  is ACEA C3-04, A3/B4-04. API -CF (diesel spec)and API - SM ( petrol spec)

Re the lists from Hy..... was there so many that you could not "publish them" on the forum...be interesting to see what they are and if there are any that are on 1 list but not the other. I take it that they do not any B5 on their list ? Or B4-08

Not that many but I thought I'd scan the sheet and post it when I have access to a scanner. (Not home at the moment) Haven't had a chance to check if any of them are B5.

Re the new and old containers...the one I referred to has AU72 printed on it ,or maybe it is AV 72, right down the bottom on the plastic if that helps.

What we need is something from Hy... about their feeling re B5  Or for that matter B4-08 if any exists in the retail world.

Keep it up guys,  we will get there in the end .

Something I find really bizarre...I went to the Supercheap Auto Online store and found they no longer list the Nulon 5W30 Diesel Long Life or the Euro Diesel...
They were there the other day....

Haven't seen this other list so have no idea whether it's the same one....
This one's called "Mandatory Fluids For Warranty Repairs"
It also lists such things as the Auto Transmission, Coolant, Brake, Power Steering & Manual Transmission Fluids, specifications and part numbers.

It's signed by the National Technical Manager, Hyundai Motor Company Australia.

As far as the crdi engine oil goes, it says C3 oil is preferred, but not mandatory..... :)

Are we going to see the list? It sounds like it's more up to date than we've seen before.

C3 preferred even when no DPF? That's an interesting piece of information! I wonder what prompted that change. Was it anything to do with the engine itself (like the inlet deposits) or an environmental initiative to reduce emissions or perhaps just in recognition that C3/C4 (and A5/B5) is where oils are going in order for car manufacturers to meet Euro 4, 5 (and 6 in 2015) emission targets.

Pip, I'll scan the list when I get home (I'm away for a few days) :)

I don't have any idea of the details, just what's written on this sheet...Interestingly, the bloke I spoke to seemed to think we did have particulate filters in our i30's. When I said mine has a sticker on the engine cover saying it didn't, he then changed what he was saying to some do, some don't...so it's got me wondering whether the 2011 model now has one... :-\

Edit: inserted correct name..lol, that will teach me to try and do 2 things at once... :-[

I thought that too, Pip, but I wasn't in the mood to argue, not after my little episode at Autobarn earlier......

This lack of particulate filter knowledge seems pretty common though. I recall a previous thread somewhere on here where no-one seemed to know whether we had one fitted or not... :-\

Thanks Rusty, couldn't look more official than that.
I guess on the other page it says: @@ w/ DPF; ** w/o DPF. I'm also not sure I interpret "(preferred but not mandatory)" as meaning C3 is preferred. But then again what else would they mean, ambiguous the way it's presented.

They have their own part number for oil? I see the grade specified (in the part number), I wonder if that is actually a Hy oil, made for them? If so what is it? I guess it's just a part number they need to use and the actual oil is a variable.

Interesting to see though that they do NOT have Castrol Edge 5w30 on the preferred list. As I've said many times here, it's not on my short list after trying it briefly. I use it in missus's Getz though and am perfectly happy it can cope there. :D

that warranty list is nice :D

Researching NULON stuff on BITOG is hard, i had to read every page of archived threads manually to find obscure topic names (I have a government job, i have a lot of time, lol).

Sorry I must have missed it Pip, why wont you consider EDGE? To get repedative on myself, every UOA is very good, and basic addative tests show almost nothing (which means all the addatives are synthetic, not that they're missing). Whats not to love? Also meets so many specifications, whats not to love?

Anywho, as I was saying, I think the next big guy in Aus to watch is Gulf Western (i'm not in any way associated): http://www.gulfwestern.com.au/GW%20Diesel%20Oil.html

They are sooooo amazingly cheap at Autobarn (the land of stupidly inflated prices), and what can I say? I respect a company that lays it ALL on the line. Every stat, every specification, right down to the %ages of what base oil, if you read their Technical Data Sheet.

For the petrol boys out there, they offer some amazingly stupid sheer points (which we dont need, but is impressive, eg. 10W-60), and for us, TOP DOG GLOBAL, EURO ENERGY and EURO SYN, appear very impressive.

Considering one bad batch of oil (within reason) cant ruin an engine, i'm tempted to do a UOA on that stuff.

Particularly the Euro Energy and the Top Dog interest me.

Euro because it looks to have met our basic specifications, and those of quite a few others (no B4, but oh well), and the Top Dog, because i'm of the personal oppinion that those more robust types of oil, if kept thin, will offer greater protection (from reading diesel oil UOA's and tests). If i do it, i'll let you know. They tempt me SO MUCH.

To which Edge do you refer? Australian Castrol Edge Sport 0w40 really looks the goods to me and I certainly would consider this because to match its specs it must use a fair dollop of PAO... 5w30 not necessarily so, probably nearer to 100% group 3. Not in itself a bad thing but not "best". It's near impossible to tell from the specs but check the price... they ain't gunna give the good stuff away. :goodjob:

I had a look. I don't share your enthusiasm. I didn't find any with correct specs for our diesel and I don't think anyone would be wanting to use a 10w60 oil in their petrol engine either. It's just far too thick. :scared:

Actually, it would be good generally if everyone used the nickname or that in signature instead of any other names. It's obvious that some of us know various members by their otherwise unpublished names and using these as a reference to an (unquoted) post is unhelpful, unless we are all privy to that name.... completely OT, but as it came up.

Hi Everyone,
For those in Australia and trying to work through the maze of which oil filter and oil to use in the 1.6 crdi, I finally got the right filter from my local Hyundai dealer. After the parts person took ages trying to work out the parts listing on the database, I was presented with three alternatives and told to take my pick. Immediately ruled our the spin on cannister type (for the petrol engine), then thanks to input on this forum identified the cartridge type with the part no. 26320 2A500. This is the correct filter for the later model crdis, mines MY11. (It's shorter than the older one)
Next was to figure out which oil.  I noted the placard on the engine cover that says my car is not fitted with the Particulation Filter and therefore needed to meet ACEA-B4.  Penrite's website is brilliant where you can drill in the make, model and engine/transmission type for the car and it will give you full details of all lubricants to use.  For the crankcase you get, Penrite HPR Diesel 5. I've gone with that.
Just finished the oil filter and oil change and the job went well with the outcome realising a smoother, quieter engine at idle.
I scored a 10 litre pack from Repco for $76 with my RACV 20% disc for the month of Feb. So at about for $40 for the required volume of oil and $30 for the oil filter service kit, $70 all up is pretty good.
This has been the first oil change since the car was new and it's just done 7500. I'm glad I got the original fill out as it was very black and served the run in period. Nice to have a fresh fill and to finally have the specs all sorted. Hope this is a help to a few.
Cheers, dki30

Agree completely.  I spent too many hours of my life researching what oil was next going into my CRDi baby.

The Bob Is The Oil Guy site linked/referred to elsewhere in the site has a wealth of info that I think is better suited to both his Ferrari, and the European weather in general.

For the first change, my little beast is getting a dose of Penrite "ENVIRO PLUS 0W-40", which the http://www.penriteoil.com.au/pis_pdfs/Enviro%20Plus%200W40%20and%2010W50%20JAN%202011.pdf .pdf description claims meets both C3 & B4 specifications, but the label on the 5 litre container only claims one, I think the B4.

Got it for ~AUS$53, and in the same shop the Penrite 5W30 (5 litre) was going for ~AUS$75.  :faint:   Bloody Volkswagens.   :D
