Western side of SHB is bikes only - Eastern side still open for pedestrian

SHB still has 8 traffic lanes, 2 rail lines & a walkway on the Eastern & Western sides of the bridge - the western side is now reserved for cyclists & eastern for pedestrians.

The 2 tram lines on the eastern side were removed years ago & are now roadway.

I have ridden a pushy across the old "Coat Hanger" on the two eastern lanes, when i do the Sydney spring Cycle.
Have driven across it, for that many years & that many times lost count. i have only ever crossed on the western side & by pushy. so next time i'm up there, i will go down the rocks & take a walk over to Milsons Point. thank's for info.
eye30, when i did that post & said only way across (free) was via pushy as i tried the western cycleway from Observatory  hill did not know the eastern side was a walkway from the Rocks. but we have a four lane tunnel that goes under Harbour too.

Well I'm still broken. Have been out on the roads the past two days and sadly the hand is not up to the job. It looks like it might be a few more weeks before I try again.

In Queensland and South Australia at least, all footpaths are designated as "shared pathways". Basically,  road rules apply.  Ie. Keep left, don't block the pathway if you stop etc. And give way to pedestrians.
It works well.
BTW. In some other states,  I think you ca  ride on the footpath if you are unde 12 years of age.
So maybe Neptune is younger than he would have us believe.   :crazy1:

Steve,

Around where I cycle there is a mixture of shared footways, mainly on the busy roads.

If not on a designated off road cycle track, I personally ride on the road unless shared footway available but have on occasion cycled on the footway, not built up areas, shops or pedestrians, when I deem riding on the road is dangerous due to speed and volume of traffic.

Never been approached by police.

I do see people cycling on footways by shops which are not designated shared and am concerned as to accidents etc.

ps
I'll give your name if ever I'm stopped   :whistler: :whistler:

Finally got out yesterday.
Weather was great, sunny and hardly any wind.

Not many photo's as did a route I covered just a few weeks ago.

The photo's which may be of interest are the last two.
First one is the bridge at Chester of the River Dee at its normal flow.
If you remember I posted a picture of my ride on the 13 Jan 2016 when the river was swollen and hardly any gap at the top of the bridge, next photo.

What is the footpath speed limit? how fast did he say he clocked you at nep?
i can remember them clocking pushes going around Sydney Centennial Park at over the car speed limit. they had a radar set up to catch cars speeding but said they had more pushy's set the radar off.

Probably another 50mtrs at that speed before I needed to slow down..... but that's when I got pulled over......I wasn't at that speed for a long time...just wanted to beat the tractor....

Hopefully you'll be a good boy and stay out this time.

Out today, first time since my last ride...  :whistler:, so didn't go far just thro' the hinterland towards New Brighton then back along the seawall towards Meols and the Hoylake Lifeboat Station.

As the station was open went in and took photo's of the Lifeboat which was delivered in 2014.

Enjoy.

Have commuted through the winter and the wet spring and am now in the middle of a resto-mod on an early 1980s steel bike(Dawes frame)Was given it by the original owner. Haven't had so much cheap mechanical fun in ages. Hopefully have it on the road before the good weather runs out.
