i30 Radio removal ?

Has anyone removed the radio from the i30, or does anyone have the info on how to ?
No I'm not replacing the radio, just need to get at the wiring behind it.

I just watched serviceman while removing the radio,I can try to help you as much as I can.

Yeah, thanks Hemmi (and of course DR for asking the question in the first place) - My car goes in to have a Bury cc9060 hands free kit installed next Tuesday and the guy's never done an i30 before - I can print out these pics to help him. This thread is perfect timing for me (I booked the car in about 10 minutes ago!). So thanks again guys.

...edit - I may even try to install it myself :cry: - After taking the top tray out, the main piece of trim didn't want to move and I don't want to break it, so I put it all back together again. I wonder if there are any screws to remove that aren't in the pics (maybe/maybe not)

I had wondered if I should remove those 2 screws also, but thought I'd wait and see if I should (they are missing from the first pic set) - Thanks again Hemmi. I'll have another go tomorrow - because the THB Bury 9060 kit arrived today (amazing delivery from Play.com - less than 48 hours from the time of order!)

From what I can see with the help of these photo's it's actually easier to remove than many other cars radios....

Wow! - Got the radio out at last (and no damage done yet).

What the photos above do not tell you is that the plastic trim is held in place by lots of white nylon/plastic clips. DO NOT PULL THE TRIM DOWNWARDS AND TOWARDS YOU (as shown in the photos above).

I succeeded finally by pulling one side of the trim SLIGHTLY UPWARDS AND TOWARDS ME (being careful not to break it). You need to be brave if you've never done this before, but I worry that the trim could be broken. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="

This tool is useful for removing two of the screws...

There's another one that's not in the photo, making ten in total, I think.

I just installed a bluetooth car-kit in my wife's new i30 yesterday and I had this thread open on my laptop in the passenger seat as I did it. It was immeasurably useful - thanks everyone.

The whole install was done in no time as there was no testing of removing panels gingerly trying not to snap any hidden mounts. I just removed the top 2 screws, pulled out the little rubber mat in the top compartment to reveal the 2 screws holding the fascia plate to the dash, pulled the fascia panel forward and away from the dash with a firm click and then unplugged the wiring for the aircon controls and hazard lights. After that, there were only 4 obvious screws on the audio unit and it was out.

I was also very impressed to note that Hyundai have used ISO connectors on the back of the audio unit. Many manufacturers use their own proprietary connectors, which make installing handsfree car kits, amps and other audio mods more difficult as you have to find, cut and join the right wires. Many European models use ISO to standardise this, which makes it easier. I was glad to see that when they tried to copy the European design, they went right down to the wiring too - very nice.

All I had to do was remove the bottom 2 ISO connectors and plug them into my colour coded ISO sockets supplied with the wiring harness of my bluetooth kit, then I plugged in the ISO plug end of my bluetooth wiring into the back of the i30's audio unit and it all worked first time. There was even enough room around the audio unit to mount the bluetooth unit and wiring harness comfortably and also providing easy access to it if ever any changes are needed.

If anyone is curious about the car kit I used it was a Parrot CK 3100 and this has always been my weapon of choice as it provides excellent duplex voice quality where you don't have to shout over road noise and it simply works via your existing audio setup and speakers (I'm not trying to sell it, just offering my preference/experience). I've used and installed these kits in Subaru, Land Rover, Mazda, Peugoet and now the i30 and I must say that the i30 installation was one of the best.

Hi all!

Although this is an excellent self explaining thread I still have a problem. I'd like to install the bluetooth parrot MK6000 kit so I have to remove the radio. The problem is that our Hyundai distributor is obviously trying to save money everywhere he can, so my I30 came WITHOUT the top compartment above the radio. It just has a plastic hatch installed which can be seen on the attached picture. I tried to pull the hatch with a blade from behind (window side), but it wasn't moving at all. When I try pulling from the front side, I can't even stick a blade between the hatch and the dashboard. Does anyone have a clue? The main issue is that the plastics can easily get damaged as you stick different object between the hatch and the dashboard.

I can see how that might concern you. Must be possible tho. I await further input here. I'm sure you must have to remove that "closed" panel to access the retaining screws...

Have you thought of asking the dealer to try and get it off for you?

If you haven't bought the parrot yet have you considered buying one of the very good bluetooth units that clips to your sunvisor (should come up on a search of this forum)

These simple things can be really frustrating (and often happen to me)

I would keep trying from the back edge or even see if you can get a look at it from under the dash with a good torch...

Thanks for the welcome... Yes, I am from Slovenia. I'm just a bit concerned about the further input because it seems that everyone on the forum has the damn compartment installed

I have already bought the parrot because I got a really good deal, and I am very satisfied with it in my older car. I was thinking about the sunvisor solutions, but they always require battery charging. I went to the dealer today (just the office) but I think the guy there didn't really understand what I was talking about. I am going back there on Tuesday but I will try asking directly in their garage.
I am a bit worried if installing such a device voids the warranty?

I think it shouldn't void the guaranty. I didn't know they sell i30's without that compartment on the dash.. Anyway I think the best thing to do would be to take your i30 to a Hyundai dealer and tell them to install the Parrot (where you want). Maybe it doesn't open there, maybe you have to open it from I don't know..somewhere behind, below.. And if you brake that plastic it will be almost impossible to get new one (at least here in Slovenia, where our dealer really sucks

) They will probably need 1 hour to install it so it should cost you 30-50 eur..

That's at least what I would do..

As far as I know are the cars with the hatch produced in Czechoslovakia and it's related to the ordered interior equipment (correct word?) if there is just a hatch.
I saw posts in german forums according to that problem. The guy tried to remove that hatch - finally he damaged it, but now he know's how to

He wrote that the frontbezel with the ventilation is just cliped and not screwed. (Maybe there are 2 screws in the compartment located above the cigar lighter.) After removing the bezel one can see (and easy remove) 7(!) screws holding that hatch.

Probably you'll need to use babelfish or google to translate that link (last post at sitebottom) - but sadly no pictures

I found a german selfmade illustrated guide for removing the radio-bezel for i30 with manual climate control and hatch. Afterwards one could remove the 7 hatch screws.
Maybe it'll help though german because a picture is worth a thousand words
