I'm sure we've discussed this on here but neither the regular search engine, nor google search gives me any obvious links to it, so starting this again.

I now have the option of upgrading to Windows 10 from W7.

Should I do so, or stay with W7 which I am happy with?   ("with which I am happy" )

I have a Dell desktop which runs Windows 8.1, I'll be upgrading that to 10. My  five year old laptop runs Windows 7, I think I will leave that as it is.

There will be very few problems for people going from 8 to 10.   However 7 to 10 is more risky in my opinion, could be some software or hardware which has problems with it. There is a checker on the Windows website but it is not comprehensive. :)

I'll be moving everything to Win10 as soon as it's offered, as I like new stuff and enjoy the challenge :D

Interesting. When I put "windows 10" upgrade into the site Google search it shows all our previous discussions. Note the quotation marks ;)

I'll be moving to win 10 on all my systems, 2 win8's and 1 win7 once it's released, the windows upgrade function/icon in the taskbar will tell you if everything on your system is compatible.

Microsoft is hard pushing all companies to update their software's to make them win10 compatible for programs and system peripherals.

I am thinking to install Debian with xfce desktop. Win 8.1 is hogging my laptop, that it is problematic to run Chrome and second application.
If i was thinking about upgrade to win10,  I would wait until they sort out bugs. Tried preview and was not usable in my case

Which preview version? there's an updated version released every 1 or 2 weeks.

Did you report it to Microsoft insider program so that they might have been able to diagnose what the problem was so that users down the line weren't affected by the same problem, that is what Beta's/Previews are for...to report issues :)

I suppose that means no  :undecided:

It means that Yes I reported to MS. I do not have number at hand.
I am testing software professionally (not for MS) and I have an idea that at last minute there is a bug/bugs which are not considered severe (inconvenience). That is why I would wait.
Within first weeks after 29 of July there will be several updates flowing from MS.

I'm not a fan of "upgrades", I'd much rather do a fresh install...so I don't think I'll be bothering with it.  :undecided:

I will be upgrading my laptop to see how the upgrade functions as soon as available.

If the retro desktop menu is not as comprehensive as the old Win7 one -  I will install the Win10 Stardock Start10 menu.

If I then don't meet any stubborn quirks with Win10 - I will upgrade my wife's laptop and my desktop computers the same

The next step will be to upgrade my Lumia Win 8.1 phone.

There has been talk of an iso being released as well for those that want to perform clean installs, you'll just need a legitimate product key for Win7 and above to activate it after install.

Just bought myself a gaming rig (I couldn't resist the lure of the new Dirt game which needs DX11 and had already dabbled a little with Steam on my old kit and liked it a lot!), so my shiny new i7 with 16Gb of RAM, 4 Gb GTX NVidia card and 3Tb hard drive will be getting the upgrade from 8.1 which is actually OK IMO, certainly much better than 8.0 was....

Some decent spec's :goodjob2: it would have been nice if the new system had come with DX12, Win10 will fully support DX12 and make better use of it than DX11, a lot of games haven't updated to the DX12 platform yet though, it will start to happen over the next few years.

What rig did you buy? I've got an Asus ROG laptop system i7 16Gb ram from 2011...still has DX11 on a 3Gb NVidia GTX560 card with a Samsung 840Pro 512Gb SSD as the main system drive with a Seagate 512GB HDD as the second storage drive, I just updated the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi card to an Intel 7260AC for some extra speed over Wi-Fi :D

I got the Acer Predator G3 605, no SSD, but it is ready to go quicker than the Xbox One, gone are the days of consoles being quicker than PC's to get up and running with!

Impressive! I didn't mention my original 4-game pong TV console, PS One, 2, etc or the various laptops or current Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet but it wouldn't top your list! :crazy1:

I dread to think of the cost Alan, although the 800XL was my first at 14 years of age, so that was a £90 job in 1984 (but a present), all the ST's were second hand as were all the Macs, think the Celeron was about £300 in about the mid 2000’s, the dual core £400, the i5 £500 and the i7 £1000.  All the consoles are about £300, and of course like Gonz, I never mentioned the Android tab and the iPad!

Due to my severe insomnia I am still awake at at 6am despite going to bed at 4 after having two melatonin tablets but only sleeping for ten minutes before waking again. Lying in bed afterwards  for 50 minutes was futile.

However on getting up again I did check my Dell desktop for new updates - and there it was - a 2.72GB update to Windows 10. Now I had thought to be cautious, but I'm not working in computing any more and I don't use my Dell for very much anyway, so it is now nearly completing the download .  Wonder how it will be? Windows 8 was 'orrible but this version may be better.
